Dear Publisher,

Yahoo! continuously evaluates and prioritizes our products and services, in alignment with business goals and our continued commitment to deliver the best consumer and advertiser experiences. After conducting an extensive review of the Yahoo! Publisher Network beta program, we have decided to close the program effective April 30, 2010. We expect to deliver final publisher payments for the month ending April 30, 2010 to publishers no later than May 31, 2010. All publishers eligible for 1099s for the 2010 tax year will have those mailed by January 31, 2011.

Because our content will no longer be delivered to your ad unit spaces after April 30, 2010, we recommend removing all YPN ad code from your pages by that date.

For the opportunity to continue earning revenue, we suggest using Chitika, a leading advertising network that syndicates Yahoo! Content Match and Sponsored Search ads. Chitika has set up a special process for YPNO beta publishers to participate in its platform. Click Here for more information.

We thank you for your participation in the Yahoo! Publisher Network beta. If you have any questions regarding this announcement, please contact our Support Team at (866) 785-2636, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PDT.
Sincerely,

From The Internet Marketing Club
Time: 40 mins with Q&A.
Presented at GoToWebinar.com

Overview Of Webinar:
1) Start with a Strategic plan, measurable objectives.
2) Do Competitive research
3) Use tools for your keywords (free online)
4) Plan your budget and bidding…prepared for flexible up or down
5) Plan a mix of media: Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc
6) Target: geographical with keywords and message
7) Jump in and start testing -it’s a real time, trial and error, process.
8 ) Track, report analyzed, and refine
———–
Do a test your self for PPC:
Do a Google search and think about where you would click.
In high ranking organic results 70% of users still prefer to click on left side, not the PPC on
right of search results
—————
5 Ideas for a winning strategy
1) Relevant/Target message, Copy/Keywords/ landing page
2) Use available real estate wisely (35 character limit)
3) Read their minds: Dynamic Keyword Insertion
4) The Margie Trick : Display URL
(Margie was giving the webinar)
5) Use ‘Eye Grabbers": Symbols & Numbers in your ad
———

Winning lay out using 5 Ideas above:
1)Keywords: i.e Tigers was the example give. Need to be specific. Tigers brought results to broad. You will be wasting your time and money
2) Use available Real Estate strive for 75% + Aproximatley 33 characters in the ad
3){Keyword: Health Insurance Quotes} Appears in Bold
if exact match to user query
4)Display URL must go to the Landing. Make a custum Page URL, so it looks more relevant in the ad listing
**Tip—-you can remove the www. from the ad and give yourself 4 more characters
5) Use Symbols & Numbers (Google does NOT allow @ ~ | and other unusual)
—Although when using ‘Eye grabbers’ don’t let it become cryptic with to many
Example :
PLAYSTATION 120GB
Save up to 5% +
$9.99 Flat Shipping
GamingOnly.com/playstation120gb

Landing page success
Google reports about 50%-80% bounce rate for landing pages
Landing page relevancy to keywords and ads – Google Quality Score
Google Quality score now determines your minimum CPC, impressions and positions

What Works On the Page/Lander:
Focus the reader – i.e create a funnel (no extra navigation on the pages)
Add a UVP – Unique Value Proposition like an ebook download. Or the first chapter, a tool or article. Some sort of MUST have a call to action.
Testimonials about your product or service speaks volumes. Be sure to have a few of those on page
Offer more content upon conversion(give preview -directly related to UVP above )
A pic is worth 1000 words, but text is still important.
Fulfill the promise in the ad copy. NO Bait and Switch! Google will smack you down!
Relevant content on landing page will give a higher Quality Score and help your positions

Example Used:
eDiet.com home page is a great landing page.
They push the sale from the very home page
Search Google for: Adkins Diet…
The page created and owned by eDiet on the results pages takes you to a custom landing page.
Point being you can use a the home page, custom page or a inner page of the site.
Test and track to see which brought in more ROI..
What to test and track?
Keywords
Creatives
Offers
and landing pages
Cost per conversion
Track ROI with advance tracking using amounts.
**Final tip: Use Google Website Optimizer and dynamically test landing pages, offers, creative, etc. A/B testing. You will need some technical no-how to set it up. Once you have the understanding and it’s all set up it is well worth it.

Something New in the Works:

Margie also demo’ed that Google is offering something new..a beta + drop-down that will show products
images, prices and titles in the sidebar adds. It looked very good. To have products images right there in the sidebar ad. I would think those would help decide which web surfer/searchers are more serious about buying. I mean they can see some images without ever clicking through the ad to the lander. That saves you some $$$ on those that may just click through to see some type of product. Very cool new feature. No idea when it will be released…and I wish i captured a screen shot.

Testing with:
3 ads in an add group based on volume and Click-thru and conversion
Retire the ads that aren’t measuring up.

Google search network: Adwords
Also Google offers a Content network. (pick and choose which networks/websites) your ad will show up on. Getting more targeted placement on websites that YOU CHOOSE.
Nifty tool mentioned:
SpyFu: Spy on your online competitors. Download competitors keywords and adwords.

Another good webinar.

Thanks Jay at TenGoldenRules. Looking forward to the next on!

Since so many people have come to rely on the Internet for much of their information gathering and looking for product reviews to base their buying decisions on the act of being paid to write a review, very much like the act of being paid to do a endorsement on television, now must be disclosed.

You see those those late night infomercials that have the very tiny print at the bottom of the screen claiming this is a paid advertisement. Bloggers who are giving paid testimonials need to do a MUCH better job of letting their readers know that they are being compensated for their endorsements of the products and services they are reviewing. The advertisiers are not off the hook all together. They need to make it known to the bloggers that a disclosure is required now.

Who dares claim this needs to happen? Well none other than the FTC.
Some noteworthy quotes:

"For bloggers, the FTC stopped short of specifying how they must disclose conflicts of interest. Rich Cleland, assistant director of the FTC’s advertising practices division, said the disclosure must be "clear and conspicuous," no matter what form it will take."

"To placate such fears, Cleland said the FTC will more likely go after an advertiser instead of a blogger for violations. The exception would be a blogger who runs a "substantial" operation that violates FTC rules and already received a warning, he said."

Start of article:

FTC: Bloggers, testimonials need better disclosure

FTC: Bloggers must disclose freebies or payments; testimonials to reflect typical results

The Federal Trade Commission on Monday took steps to make product information and online reviews more accurate for consumers, regulating blogging for the first time and mandating that testimonials reflect typical results.

The FTC will require that writers on the Web clearly disclose any freebies or payments they get from companies for reviewing their products. The commission also said advertisers featuring testimonials that claim dramatic results cannot hide behind disclaimers that the results aren’t typical.

An upcoming update in your AdSense account is designed to help you generate the maximum revenue from your ad units. You’ll soon be able to allow multiple ad networks to show on your pages, which means that advertisers from external Google-certified networks will be able to compete with AdWords advertisers for your ad space.

If you’re unfamiliar with what ad networks are, they’re companies that partner with advertisers and publishers to buy and sell ads on sites they don’t own themselves, similar to AdSense. Ads from these networks will compete with Google ads to show on publisher sites, and the ad generating the highest revenue for publishers will be displayed.

To ensure the quality of the ads appearing on your sites, we’re certifying all participating ad networks for adherence to our standards for user privacy, ad quality, and speed. You’ll also have control over which networks can show ads on your pages — you can choose to opt out of receiving ads from specific networks, or all networks completely. This means you can continue to show ads from only AdWords advertisers if you’d like.

She is a Voice Talent that has done radio spots, television commercials, and Public Service Announcements. Once advertisiers have heard one of her ads they often follow up to find out more about that dazzling voice and who that woman is. Learn more About Jamie.
She really knows how to control her voice and tune it for the product she is working on.

Jamie’s voice has been described as: Warm, Sexy, Lush, Vibrant, Sultry, Hip, Sophisticated, Fresh, Youthful, Friendly, Professional, Sweet, Real, Sensual, Inviting, Optimistic, Genuine, Knowing, Wry, Playful and Flirtatious.

I’m also happy to say Jamie Congedo trusted me to develop her website. Jamie was easy to work with and quick to follow up, provide feedback and knew what she wanted. What a great personality to work with. You can really feel the engery she offers, you only have to listen to her current voice demo once to understand that, but after you hear it once you will want to listen to it again. Jamies Voice Talent Demo is converted into MP3 and WMA formats that you can download off her website.

So next time you are looking for that extra something to make your audio advertisment stand out you should check out Jamie Congedo, a true voice talent!

You can see them here : Logo Designs

Getting the jquery slider to play nice across-browsers did take a little longer than I would have liked, but well worth it now that they have a new home here at OregonPublishing.com When I offer a logo service all work is performed in Vector format and you get a full set of files when your project is complete. From black and white to full color, even a specialized size for use on your website.

If you have any comments, I would love to hear them.

As the whole economy pointed down last year I have been more and more focused on my local business opportunities. The reason was two fold: First there was the clients I was working with who no longer could sustain their online presence and business models. This led to some of my regular work disappearing. Secondly, I really thought it was time for me to start thinking about how to help out my local community get their businesses online. Yes, it has been exciting working nationally and internationally from my home office and I will not give that up entirely. I still have a few contacts and clients located in the Mid-West and East-Coast and love that have figured out ways to keep turning a profit and offering me work, but local is where it is at. You know the saying, Think Global Act Local? Well, time to apply that to more than the green movement.

Living in Eugene Oregon I have seen how slow the great technology change is happing here vs a larger city. Eugene is more laid back, lots of face to face business, small local businesses, and even the wonderful Saturday Market where you can truly see the display of what this town is really all about: Community. They almost seem to resist the change that is happening all around, or not taking it very serious. I have noticed a shift recently. The change is taking hold and more people are looking for a web developer with graphic design skills.

Now to the focus of this post. Being in the domain market for the past 8 years I have seen the power of domain names shift and grow. First it was big keywords like Cars.com, then long-tail-key-words LeatherCarSeats.com, (both still holding strong value) but Google and other search engine understood the shift happing too. People wanted to know how to find the local businesses. How to find what is offered right in one’s town and city, even a broad search to cover a whole state. So getting those types of domains was the next big kick to getting some addition rank to your website. Get the Keyword and your local town’s name together. Makes sense right?

I prefer TownKeyword.com vs. KeywordTown because it has a logical sound that sticks in the brain. For example:
AdvertisingEugene.com vs. EugeneAdvertising.com
The sound of putting the proper noun in-front of the adjective is the natural flow of the English Language. Or take a product like Carpets. Would you type in Carpets Eugene into the search or address bar? Maybe, but the more natural flow is EugeneCarpets.com
Even greater than the natural linguistic flow of the domain name is the authoritative power that is conveyed.
It’s a verbal demonstration that takes place in the brain that you are THE PLACE to go for your product and/or service. That you are THE Town’s or City’s resources when it come to that specific niche.

That being said, I’m happy to have watched my Local Advertising Domain name Eugene Advertising climb to the top of the ranks. It has taken around 5 weeks, including developing the domain, providing unique content, and working some linking strategies. I was happy before when people entered Eugene Advertising and I came up #1 UNDER the list of names displayed on the local map. A few weeks later I got the top 2 spots, still UNDER that map. Now, a little over a month later working on it a few times a week, I am #2 on the map and hold the top 2 listings under the map. Nice

There is a certain amount of satisfaction that comes with dominating 3 spots at the top of the first page of google search results for Eugene Advertising ( G says: Results 1 – 10 of about 3,140,000 for eugene advertising. (0.27 seconds)

The power of domains is really a something people may still be overlooking in my town, but I’m out there more and more doing my part to help the local small business understand the value of a good domain and website. I’m starting to get calls for a range of advertising services like BillBoards. Cool.

I took the below screenshot today and highlighted my placements:

The countdown has come and gone and I was way to tired to try and post about this yesterday, or even hold a countdown.
The time has arrived that I finally launched this work in progress. It’s by no means finished, what website is ever finished.

I lost count of all the different redesigns and mark-ups I went through over the past 2 months. Yeah, that’s how indecisive I was about putting up one of my own creations to represent such a fine domain name (and my own name!).

The site is coded in CSS and XHTML and validates at the W3C. The site’s template is constructed into three sections. The PHP is calling includes for the header and footer, while the center portion, where the content changes, is static.

I also have been having my share of fun playing around with the multitude of jQuery scripts & tools and the various plug-ins that can be added to it. The home page use a basic coda-slider that I have added the reflection plug-in to. That may change up to some type of carousal, but I’m happy with it for now.

I still need to update much of the site with all the resources I use and have found online for domaining, affiliate marketing, designing, and advertising online.

Projects Page: (not up yet as of this posting) There is still the major portion of what Oregon Publishing will function as in the future: an AD SERVER that targets the state of Oregon, but I’m still thinking about what plan of action to take and if i’m limiting myself or not. Niches are good, but I still feel that the potential is great for a national ad sever platform. There are several other projects that will go on the projects page, like what Eugene Advertising will evolve into…a business portal and link directory for the city of Eugene, at some point when time and capital allow for growth.

Back to work now. There are still a few lines of code that need to get done

Oh, if you need to hire me to do your website, or updated it or make it look “pretty”, you use either the Contact page or Request a Quote

I also do Banner Ads Designs to help with your online marketing campagines.

I recall they were bought up by Google 2 years ago, I think. And Google has truly got there name on a Affiliate Network and will no longer just be know for search (and all the great tools and aps they also give us for free) but they will make commissions of products sales. I bet they get their Google checkout (probably already have) plugged into their Affiliate payment gateway both for the consumer and the affiliate marketer. The Internet evolution continues….
