With all the hype about Apple right now it hard to even think that they will one day fail!

But I too belive this powerhouse will fall. The open source ecosystem of the WWW is just the norm. Sure it seems cool to have a propiety Apple tablet and phone, but you can no win against the numbers. The number of people who support and work on open source just because they can and want to make a software perform better and more functions is only measurable to the close source platforms.
So while Apple is on tp today I will bet against them in the next 5 years. I think they will succumb to the open source or die model.

Seems it would have been easier to just do this profile pic update at the same time as the other Forced items a few weeks back.
Got this in an email today:

On April 26, we will be updating the size of the profile picture on all Pages. We are letting you know about this small change in advance so that you can update your profile picture on April 26. The new profile picture will be 160 x 160 pixels and will sit at 23 pixels from the left and 210 pixels from the top of the Page.

Of Course there will be upgrades and paid versions and we know this MUST integrate with google+

One of the fungi we’re looking at is called pestalotiopsis microspora. It was discovered by a group of Yale researchers on an expedition in Ecuador and can subsist on [EAT] polyurethane [all] alone in airless environments, like the bottom of a landfill.

The other comes from a couple of college friends who discovered that the sticky substance on the bottom of mushrooms called mycelium could be turned into a glue and when that glue is combined with corn husks and other food byproducts it takes on a form similar to Styrofoam. Their company,Ecovative wants used Styrofoam to become mulch, not waste.

A future with less plastic and more mulch, all thanks to fungus.

This is Truely A BIG DEAL!

Apple and hacker, the iPad leads the way to Virus

I was just looking over the Reg and was thinking about how much Apple users have really enjoyed the almost non-threat of Malware and Viruses in general.

Part of that enjoyment came through the lack of use of Apple Products. The Audience of computing devices to hack was greating the in PC area vs the Mac. With the invention of the iPad and the wide popularity of its use I think we call all see what is to come next. Mass attacks on the iPad. The Security is lacking as you can read:

Video Hardware enthusiasts managed to find multiple different ways to jailbreak the new iPad over the weekend, hours after the release of Apple’s latest fondleslab.

Hackers were quickly able to develop custom code that allowed them to escape Apple’s walled garden and install unapproved apps on the new iPad with iOS 5.1.
Three different groups developed methods for jailbreaking the new iPad. None of these methods have yet been packaged into point-and-click tools just yet, but the apparent ease with which three different approaches to jailbreaking were developed means that utilities to automate the process are likely to arrive sooner rather than later.

DOMAIN NAMES : OWN YOURS

I am stunned at how many web developers are willing to register clients’ domain names AND KEEP THEM!

The first rule when you start working with a technical or specialzed field, make sure you know what you are paying for and what you own afterwords.
It makes me sick to see web developers take advantage of those not in the know. We all have to make a living, but I refuse to hold client’s domain names hostage. Or require an over-the-top fee for renewals.

What do you do about it?
If anybody suggest they will buy a domain name for you, make sure that is what they are doing.Once the name is registered the developers should either ask you to set-up your own account at the domain registar and push the name to you. Or set-up the account for you and buy the name with you there or on the phone.
Reason: You will own your domain name, the thing that all your emails that end with @yourwebsite.com controls.

Never give up control on your domain name! It’s your business, you should own your assests.

Oregon Publishing requires that all clients take ownership of their domains if one or more were purchased on behalf of a client.
That’s just policy and business.

This morning I was thinking back to a time when I couldn’t find a job for the life of me. I was in food service had plenty of experince, around15 years, and it made me feel pretty worthless after a couple of months of looking and not having any real income. Then, a friend of mine introduce me to www.oddtodd.com

It was, and guess, still is a seriers of skits done in cartoon style cheezy animation, but it works. Once you see how funny he make a sad situation look your imagination takes over and the narration, intonations of words and fun make-belive characters complete this cast. The very first video is where to start, it has been 8 or 9 years since I watched them and laughed. His website has come a long ways too….
