Handy radiation checker iPhone App

This seems to show how ready the world is for quick and useful tools that can be sent and used from your Mobile Phone.
Wait!  this Tool is only providing information…it’s not like you get a Geiger Counter ported to your iPhone….
And I bet you thought that at first….

Article Below: Click for Original Source

iPhone users can now download a free iPhone app to tell them what local radiation levels are, in case they’ve not got enough to worry about.

The new application is available worldwide, though you’d have to take paranoia to a new level to worry about spreading radiation from Japan if you weren’t actually nearby: even then you should probably worry about rebuilding the country’s infrastructure more than media-hyped threats of radiation poisoning.

The data for the app, called Radiation Information and published by Qnuouo, comes from the Japanese Ministry of Education, scraped from the ATMC site which already provides charts based on government feeds.

Those disinclined to trust the government can see how safe they are from the crowd-sourced Failed Robot, which mashes network-connected Geiger counters into Google Maps, but there’s no iPhone app for that yet.

We’re sure it won’t be long – the mobile app developers aren’t quite as quick as the Trojan-writing scammers to take advantage of people’s credulity and fear, but they aren’t far behind. ®

Verizon snaps up iPhone domains

Protecting its brand by buying Internet domain names that link the iPhone with Verizon

Source: iPhoneonverizon.com

Here’s more evidence — as if we needed it — that Apple (AAPL) is building an iPhone for Verizon (VZ).

PocketNow‘s Evan Blass has discovered that Verizon Trademark Services LLC, the company that owns verizon.com and verizonwireless.com, now also owns iphoneonverizon.com and iphoneforverizon.com.

In an item posted Saturday, Blass writes that the sites were once owned by Jim Benton of HolyShnikes.com, whose catch phrase — “share with someone who cares” — is deliciously ambiguous.

Using whois searches, Blass turned up similar sites — such as verizoniphone.com — that are still held by domain name squatters. They may be holding out for a better offer.

Meanwhile, HolyShnikes’ Benton still owns iphoneonsprint.com and iphoneontmobile.com, in case anyone at Sprint (S) or T-Mobile (DT) is interested.

Beastly Android will batter Apple’s iOS beauty

Open…and Shut Apple can still claim top spot in terms of US market share, according to recent data from Nielsen, but its lead is rapidly vanishing in Android’s wake.

This means that developers increasingly are going to need to choose the platform they should develop for first, and the answer seems increasingly to be Google’s open web.

My Brief Comment:
I am happy that Android is Open Source. Apple has held the mobile phone “coolness” for too long, keeping their code locked up.
I am a Droid owner and happy to hear that Apple and it properiety ways are starting to see the bright lights coming down.

How to add A2DP support to Windows 7

Windows 7 came with no A2DP support and MS asked bluetooth hardware manufacturer to add this feature in driver upgrade. All bluetooth hardware on laptop where most of the time we need A2DP are made by Broadcomm (widcomm software), Toshiba or CSR. The last 2 manufacturer seem to have A2DP in Vista which should work in W7 but for Broadcomm nothing around.

I followed the steps and worked great for my Motorola S305 Bluetooth Stereo Headset

Posting with Android

image

This is my first post to my blog using my new smart phone. Droid X. Mostly a test to see how simple it is to do.

Really simple is my verdict.

Using the swype feature to type makes it smooth and quick.  Pic taken with phone also.

Free Phone Calls To Facebook Friends

Have you heard the news about calling your facebook friends for “free”?
Well that is now a possibility if you have 2 of 3 elements, which are common place in todays 1st world countries
1) An iPhone
or
2) An Android based phone
And
3) A Facebook account (with friends)

Next head on over to your iStore or Android Marketplace and look for the Vontage application.
The app is a mobile client allowing iPhone and Android users to make VoIP calls for free, as long as they’re calling a Facebook friend.

Here’s where I learned this -_-
