True File Compression Software For Free

I think we all use some for of compression software in our daily Internet and office lives. Well maybe not all people, but st some point you encounter the question, ” How do I make this file smaller?” The compression software that is built into Windows XP isn’t really all that great at compression files, but it bundles them up for you nicely so they attach easily in emails and for storing on disk. I was using Fipzip for a long time just to bundle files to deliver to clients and friends, but that program while serving me well over the years just plains sucks for compression. I only spent 5 mins looking around the web for a replacement to flipzip and found Just-ZipIT. Downloaded and installed and performed a zip on a .psd file that started as a 182MB. Filpzip only crunched it down to 180MB and that just will not do. But Just-ZipIT drop it down to just a tad over 25MB.

Now that is compression, Woot!

7 Must have plugins for WordPress

I have several WordPress powered sites and blogs and they all use a few different templates and plugins on all of them. There is always the must haves for a blog, like blocking spammers and adding FeedBurner and XML site maps for google. Well, if I was doing that I figure others must be doing this too.

After a visit to google I found Nathan Rices blog and his top 7 must haves for his site. Looking over them I see I am using at least 2 and the dropdown css menu for WordPress admin got me excited. You can see and download his choices here:

Find that WHOIS with one click

If you are a domainer or someone who is looking around to buy a domain name but are unsure how to find the owner of a name to make an offer, the answer is WhoIS.

Good old fashion who-is look-up is the standard way to find who owns that name you want, that is if they haven’t added a privacy service to the name. Then I would say that name is off the sellers’ block. They are hiding their name for any number of reasons.

Where do you perform the WhoIS look-up. One of the most popular look-ups is whois.sc they change their name to DomainTools.com a few years back. They offer more than just WhoIS look-ups making the name far more informative to what they do.

But that takes going to their site doing the search from their site: either typing in the domain name or pasting the name into their search box.

I find that is two to many clicks. I like the one click and the info is there, enter UltimateDomains.com I have been using the tool “link” for over a year now, but they offer a service so simple I felt inspired to write about it (finally). You can click & drag their WhoIS link-tool to your tool bar and when your on a site you want to know more about just click the link. Wham-O and you have a basic look-up right there in front of you. Very cool indeed.

Lots of projects, little posting

I have been working on many projects of my own both routinely and in depth. It is nice to see a couple of ideas start taking shape, gathering traffic and gradually growing. Freelance is providing a steady stream of earnings along with Affiliate sales, PPC, and even the parked domains have increased in traffic and monetarily. Need to pick a few of those and give them the seed of development. Still trying to get regular posting here, put that in with the Lots of projects getting done. Oops, guess not this one….good thing blogging isn’t my source of income, but still I understand the power that a properly run blog can yield.

FDA says food from cloned animals is safe…

I have thought about cloned animals as food since they first cloned Dolly, the most famous sheep in the world. The world debated how humans would be directly affected by the new technology was developed on Feb 22, 1997. How we could use such technology on humans for humans? Mostly discussions surrounded medical purposes, i.e to grow and farm organs to augment the lack provided by donors. With the news just out yesterday that they have taken a rat heart and “bleached” it of it’s dna cells, froze it, then re-animated it with different rat dna cells is a marvelous feat and I do look forward to the first time we do this with a pig heart. Why a pig heart? A pig’s heart can function in a human. Note, this is done by choice on individuals with consent.

Writers Strike

I have only loosely been following the writers strike in Hollywood. But after a little looking I found the video on youtube that gives the “quick lowdown” on what started the thing back on Nov. 1 2007. I’ll post that here.

Being a publisher online involved in marketing and advertising I think that the Networks are being unfair. I urge those who have not to sign up the petition, watch the vid, read the blogs and support the writers. They give “birth” to the scripts and should get the extra 4 cents on residuals. The intenet should be helping people make money not stopping them.
